What is PC-over-IP?

Before you dive into PCoIP, you need to be aware of remote service. Remote service is the way a desktop can access from a long distance through the network. Now the quality of this service is another subject entirely. PC-over-IP (abbreviated as PCoIP) is the technology that provides this service but with additional attributes. Features of PCoIP:

  • UDP: The PCoIP based on the UDP (User Datagram Protocol). This allows the data to send without any confirmation or feedback from the user that is accessing the host machine. Moreover, In contrary to the TCP (Transmission Control Protocol), which as the name suggests makes sure of the quality of the data by taking constant reports from the end-user.   • Host rendering: The goal to achieve here is to avoid any display latency. This accomplished through the transmission of pixels rather than worrying about the application. If the request run at the time there might have been delays since the processor, and the instruction is on two different systems, and the suspension is not preferable thus to avoid that the client is not concerned about the application and only the images received at the clients’ end. The zero clients are essential here for the decoding of the images immediately as to avoid cybersecurity training.
  • Bandwidth Usage: The most impressive part about PCoIP is the way the bandwidth managed. When there is too much traffic on the network, the bandwidth usage is monitored, and the encoders work as rescue officers and get the best quality of the image that can transfer with the available bandwidth. This remains the case until the traffic becomes less and the bandwidth restriction removed. Once that is done the image quality resumes to the original high quality and the latency is minimum in both the cases when compared to any other remote service.


PCoIP, when compared with the other remoting service, provides the best result due to the image processing instead of the transmission of applications. The reduce in the latency is the most favorable condition which the user is attracted to the most since speed is the most important parameter when it comes to computing.
